Official registration and establishment

New Message for Afghan Woman Organization (NMAWO) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non political and independent civil society organization dedicated to the welfare and progress of Afghan citizens with a primary focus on women’s empowerment, human rights, good governance and advocacy. The organization has been working in women rights issues since establishment while implemented various projects in the areas of women rights, women empowerment, good governance and advocacy to address social, civic and democratic issues at local and national level.

NMAWO Organizational Background:

NMAWO is a non-governmental, non-profit, and independent civil society organization dedicated to the welfare and progress of Afghan citizens, with a primary focus on women’s empowerment, human rights, sustainable development, public services, good governance, and advocacy.
Since its establishment in 2010, NMAWO has actively addressed women’s rights issues through various projects aimed at empowering women and promoting good governance. The organization has gained a strong reputation at both local and national levels, with a head office in Kabul and sub-offices in several provinces. NMAWO is recognized for its effective project implementation, having received numerous appreciation letters from the community and local government. This trust is crucial for the successful execution of our initiatives.
NMAWO has implemented a range of projects across Kabul, Bamyan, Ghor, Ghazni, and Daikundi provinces, including:

  • WASH Initiatives: Family hygiene and consumable kits distribution, and the design and assessment of 20 water supply and 5 sanitation projects in Kabul hospitals.
  • Women’s Rights and Empowerment: Projects focused on advancing women’s rights and gender equality, reducing violence against women, and protecting runaway girls.
  • Human Rights and Women’s Empowerment: Initiatives promoting gender equity and safeguarding women's rights, addressing human rights issues like gender-based violence and discrimination. These projects support survivors, provide safe spaces, raise awareness, and empower women through education and legal resources.
  • Community Development: Agriculture, Livestock farming, SSED, cash distribution for displaced people, literacy trainings, handicraft, honey beekeeping, and community engagement in civic affairs and governance.
  • Education: Initiatives aimed at improving access to quality education for girls and boys, including the establishment of safe learning environments, provision of school supplies, and teacher training programs. These efforts focus on reducing dropout rates and promoting lifelong learning opportunities within the community.
  • Emergency Response: Emergency Response initiatives focus on rapid needs assessment, disaster relief distribution, and health services for affected communities. They provide shelter support, non-food items, and psychosocial care, along with training for local responders, ensuring a coordinated approach to enhance resilience and recovery in crisis situations.

NMAWO approaches each project as part of a strategic process aimed at fostering sustainable development and social cohesion.
Furthermore, NMAWO has established partnerships with national and international networks, including the Counterpart International, UNICEF, UNDP, UN Women, UN HABITAT, OXFAM-PTRO, Search for Common Ground, Protect Defenders.eu, Afghanistan Civil Society Forum Organization (ACSFo), Afghan Civil Society Election Network (ACSEN), Local Governance Initiative Network (LOGIN ASIA), Environment Natural Resource Monitoring Network (ENRMN), and the National Advocacy Committee (NAC).
The organization operates under a democratic structure comprising three boards: the Management Board, which is the primary decision-making body; the Board of Directors, which supports fundraising and strategic leadership; and the Advisory Board, consisting of professionals who provide technical and specialized support.
